Titterzz quicky 31-05-2012: of course homophobic violence differs worldwide. Still, there’s a huge problem, even in ‘tolerating countries’ like ours: Holland. Often, this homophobic violence is said to be rooted in deep insecurity about one’s own sexuality. This might just be true…

Sexual desire and the negative influence of long-term relationships

Categories: EN, Science EN, slide
Published on: 13 June, 2011

Titterzz quicky 13-06-2011: How about sexual triggers which get less over a long-term relationship? Hmm, that’s a sad conclusion; but also the harsh truth! Now, the researchers suggest that we need to broaden our range of cues. I personally think there’s much more to ‘what the fuck happened to our mutual interest in each other?’. Perhaps there are many reasons why sexual desire disappears (look into our Titterzz advice).

Double standards: controlling female sexuality

Categories: EN, Science EN, slide
Published on: 19 May, 2011

Titterzz quicky 19-05-2011: Another oldy (2003), to remind us women we have to go a looooonnngggg way! Double standards as a mean to ‘control’ female sexuality. Wow. It has effects on how women are perceived who are active in the search for sexual experiences, that eventual rape is judged less serious, etc. In fact, women sacrifice their sexual autonomy due to these standards, one way or the other. You can read it online. Titterzz has selected some pieces of the article. In: Journal of Sex Research, ‘Sexual double standards: A review and methodological critique of two decades of research’, 2003, 40: 1, 13-26.

Titterzz quicky 19-05-2011: this is a nice exploring article about women looking for sexual attention of strippers (and getting it!!!). Yes, it’s slightly old (2008), but the idea about this whole phenomenon is very nice: how to incorporate customers that didn’t ‘belong’ there traditionally? And that’s just one of many questions. Much more in: Journal of Sex Research, Volume 45, Issue 3, 2008, Pages 201 – 216.

Sexual knowledge to decrease rape-supportive beliefs in youngsters

Categories: EN, Science EN, slide
Published on: 14 May, 2011

Titterzz quicky 14-05-2011: Titterzz knows this is a far more general scientific subject. Still, we are anxious to place it. Why? We think that being a woman asks for specific attention to your body, and the possession of your own body; in every way possible. Most of the time the female body doesn’t – completely – belong to herself. This is more easily observed in countries where young girls get circumcised, married off before they know their own sexuality and correctively raped because they’re lesbians. But Titterzz also wrote about the more subtle possessiveness of men on women in The Netherlands (see AW-NL). Furthermore, the common sub assertive position of women themselves has the assertive male on the other side.
Change has to start at a young, sexual, age. Especially with parents who have their own belief systems that don’t support female assertiveness. This article finds that boys already have higher rape-supportive beliefs than girls, but those beliefs can be decreased by sexual knowledge, independent of gender. Titterzz finds these results highly important. These conclusion should lead to more sexual education at school with the attentional focus on the subject of sexual violence. The complete article can be read in Journal of Sex Research, Volume 48, Issue 4, First published 2011, Pages 372 – 380.

Titterzz quicky 26-1-2011: Results of this study show that (a.o.) daughters of lesbian moms try same-sex relations more often that daughters of heterosexual couples. Although I personally can’t believe the result that children of lesbian moms aren’t abused, this can be due to the relative small number of subjects. Still, a study with some nice results.

Lesbian brain looks more masculine than female heterosexual one

Categories: EN, Science EN, slide

Titterzz quicky 26-1-2011: Are brains of lesbians different from heterosexual women? Do they look more like masculine brains? To test this hypothesis, a single performance measure was used: dichotic listening performance. So, this doesn’t account for all brain processes! Results show that lesbian brains do not differ significantly from female heterosexual ones, but look more like male heterosexual brains than their female counterparts.

Sexuality loses essential layers in scientific debates

Categories: EN, Science EN
Published on: 17 January, 2011

Titterzz quicky 17-1-2011: I can only say – I need to read this whole article. Juliet annouces quite right that conceptual frameworks have to meet… People often speak different languages. What’s the impact on (female) sexuality? It’s huge. Remember the debate about female ejaculation? The female prostate? About sexual ‘dysfunction’? The focus on anatomic structures, and that’s even been done -literally- off target, loses the psycho-emotional and social facts of sexuality.
